whats to be gained from it.. longer between changes.. possibly stands abnormally high loads before breaking down.. high mileage engines should not be subjected to this kinda sh-t anyway..
whats to be lost.. well bunging detergent oil in old egines that have never had it is not a good idea.. moveing the sludge will do far more harm than leaving it were it is.. then we have the possible leaks.. its more expensive..
nah.. the possible gains aint worth the possible troubles.. i would never do it..
guys might say i have used it for xxxxx miles with nary a problem.. but exactly the same comments can be said of the so called dyno oils.. so such comments dont really mean that much..
one reasons manufacturers might recommed it is the simple fact u can go further with changing it.. it looks better in the service specs.. which was also the only reason that sealed for life bearing appeared.. it made the servce intervals greater.. ie.. theoretically cheaper to run the car.. it certainly didnt make the bearings last longer.. he he he
