This is a quote from the mechanic I take my 89 900 T16 w 163k on it for inspections ect.
"Greg, don't have time for detailed reply, up to my eyeballs in tire jobs & slush.
oil: I got my 86 9000 turbo in 1990, with 80k miles on it.
I don't know what they used for oil but since then I have used 5w-30 mobil 1 synthetic. It has 212k miles now,
original engine, original turbo. My wife has run it out of oil
2 times, both times seizing the engine. I was able to break
it free and continue driving, the last time she siezed it was
35k miles ago. That's my strategy & I'm sticking with it."
This is testimony to synthetic oil. I use Saab Turbo 5-30 in mine. Gets the oil where it is needed as early as posible.
