to me its sounds more like some kind of engine compartment fire than an engine blow up.. assuming there was water in the car.. errr coolant.. letting an engine tick over for an hour without oil pressure should not cause the damage u describe..what do i think should happen.. well perhaps the idling engine should just slowly come to a stop as the friction built up with not much or no outward signs of damage at all..
all that heat damage did not come from an engine simply ticking over without oil pressure.. it couldnt.. as i say it would have just come slowly to a stop.. the coolant should have kept the temps pretty normal.. something else must have happened on top of what u describe.. loss of coolant perhaps..?? or a small engine fire that went out before u woke up.. he he
