okay u your engine did not "blow up".. the empty radiator ties it all together.. while u were asleep for some reason your car overheated lost all its coolent and slowly came to a stop.. fan not coming on is the most likely cause..
the huge oil slick was mostly water with the oil on top.. ether way apart from the possiblity of a warped head.. its not that likely to have done much damage.. lets say things appeared to be worse than they actually were.. as they very often can.. he he he
one thing to note.. i dont know the exact point on a saab that the oil fails to get picked up by the oil pump.. but it is possibly off the end of the dipstick.. it is possible that the car had oil pressure all the time.. if this is the case it would be the overheating that brought things to a stop.. nothing to do with lack of oil at all..
