Before I had any idea how the 80's vintage CIS engine worked, I too grumbled when my prior 82 C900 n/a wouldn't run worth a nickle during cold starts and warm-up. Without knowing what I was doing I somehow discovered that by unplugging the O2 sensor until the engine was adequately warm the engine ran fine. So "How about a kill switch for the O2 sensor?" I reasoned. I did just that, splicing in a switch (with an led on/off indicator) mounted on the dash with wires running to and from the sensor. It worked like a charm until the day I drove it to it's final destination. With my latest 82T incarnation I just have the red tipped sensor mod, and while I know it can still do better during warm-up (just at idle, accel is fine), I'm happy with the results.
