"Hard" is a relative term when describing any DIY maintenance on these cars. A rack replacement is definitely in the top 5 of most unfriendly jobs to do. So many fluid spillage, cursing and knuckle busting opportunities! Good job though. You will love the results of a new leak free rack when you finish the job. And you'll notice a major decrease in the filth quotient around that area. Here's my tip for helping to keep it relatively clean: I frequently point the hose handle (highest water pressure) down around there (warm engine, not hot) to free up any oils and dirt. And whenever I'm underneath the engine for one reason or another I spend time with a rag cleaning stuff. It's much easier to regularly remove what little dirt and oil accumulates as opposed to many years worth of buildup.
