Calling all CIS warm-up idle masters (aux valve?)

With my properly tuned and running 82T engine, I've pretty much licked the cold start problem after having installed the red tipped thermo time switch. However, at this time of year and under certain atmospheric conditions where I live (less than 10 miles from the ocean, but 800 feet elevation) that can include high humidity and very cool temps at night, the initial start can still be tough.
Under normal conditions I can hear the engine warm-up proceedure go through it's course: therm time switch open, aux valve open, thus giving ample air draw plus a fixed run rich pulse ratio and a nice steady higher than normal idle. But then the aux air valve steadily closes followed by the time switch kicking the O2 sensor into play. At that point on a typical warm day the idle dips to around 700 or so until the engine warms up to operating temps. Then all is normal. But on the colder and more humid days the idle dips lower and can be rough until operating temps are reached.
How about this for a possible fix - adjusting the aux air valve setting so that the valve stays open longer. On those older valves the oriface opening is determined by a small nut, which when loosened you can rotate the spring controlled control plate one way or the other (best to do when the valve is cold). The only thing I don't know is how much more time I'm buying with a more opened valve. At least a minute more can't hurt as that seems to be the amount of time it idles rough until the O2 sensor warms up enough. Anyone know the mysteries of the aux valve settings? Perhaps all I need is a new aux air valve that doesn't close as fast as my current one.
