Hello, I thought I would introduce myself before posting my question. My name is Brian Komar and I live in north central Kansas. I am the proud new owner of an 87 900 turbo with ~150,000 miles. It is in very good condition with just a few flaws, most of which you will probably hear about in the near future, while I attempt to fix them. I believe, after looking at the classifieds here that I lucked into a great deal. It is a no rust car with 1 small dent, a bad front MM and a leaking but tolerable steering rack. Those, along with a seized AC comp. were the only problems noted on a PPI. The interior is velour and other than being just a bit faded, is nearly perfect, all for $600.00. I have been a VW/ Porsche nut for some time and currently have in the garage a 1980 euro 911SC and a 75 914 2.0. I also have several other 914/ VW bus projects. I am a fairly active member of the Pelicanparts BBS: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/BKOMAR . I am a PCA member and track my cars (DE and SCCA SOLO) as often as I can. I was very happy to see that there is a SAAB BBS because I do all of my own maintenance and repair since living in the flatlands of Kansas does not lend itself well to having unusual vehicles (very little support). I look forward to reading the new posts and spending hours digging through the archives. Enough about me...now my question: When I bought the car all was fine/ quiet and thoroughly enjoyable (such solid cars these are. Don't know why I didn't buy one sooner!), but after driving a few days, a loud ticking noise began coming from inside the engine compartment. I narrowed it down to a yellowish box located on top of the radiator (pass. side) that has vaccuum lines coming out of it and a 2 prong connector/ wire on top. When I disconnect the wire the clicking stops and all is quiet. There seems to be no adverse events happening when it is disconnected and I have driven ~100 miles with it unhooked. What does it do and do I need to replace it? I thank in advance for replies and hope to become a productive member of SAAB society, Brian
