I just posted this EXACT same question a few days ago. Isn't that a strange coincidence??? Here is what you need to do:
1. Bolt in the rack
2. Feel up under the dash, and disconnect (once you find it) the other steering clamp. Not the one that is on the rack side. THere is another one further up the column. This one is much easier to install. Undo this clamp.
3. Now that you have the column out, you have all the slack you need to get that sucker installed on the rack's splined shaft. I cleaned the splines first, but didn't need to. After you get the lower one bolted in, install the top clamp. Pull the steering wheel towards you and push away from you to help get the clamp on as needed.
I hope youre getting at the clamp from the hole in the firewall inside the car, and not on the outside. I have no idea how I would get it in that way.
