my UK 87 car dosnt have one.. it also dosnt have the ecu and lamda sensor that goes with the cat.. emission control devices sap your bhp.. lets say 10 bhp would be gained from gutting or removing the cat on a standard none turbo car perhaps more on a turbo or tuned car .. plus its said u will get a slight gain in fuel economy..
in the UK it works like this.. by law all cars manufactured after 1992 have to have them.. they also have to pass tighter emission controls tests.. a basic tuning option in the UK is cat bypass pipes.. the idead being that u put the cat in for the yearly test and take the bugger out in between.. he he.. if u can.. i have never done it.. gutting your existing cat does the same thing..
okay the power increase aint a lot.. but its there.. notice it or not.. to be honest u need a fairly hefty power increase to notice it much in actual driving.. say at least 30%..
