funny really cos in the old days things like this were fixed by a simple tweak of the idle mixture and throttle stop screws.. on my none ecu controled saab they still are.. now folks are told not to fiddle with such things so more complicated reasons have to be found for what used to be a simple problem..
still.. has as already been said checking all the vacume pipes that clutter up your engine is the thing to to.. in its simplest form an air leak in one of these causes an over weak idle mixture hence the poor idle.. but some of them are control devices that control other functions..
as a temporary measure.. simply screwing in your throttle stop screw by say half a turn will speed the idle up and make life easier till u find the real cause.. a slightly too fast an idle is a lesser evil than one that is too slow..
