got a nice press. Unfortunately, the inner race is often the more discriminating indicator of wear and it's not viewed non-destructively. I've only seen this set fail once and it was obvious that it was due to stationary water in the bottom of the trans. Poor storage out of car or a flood car, etc. The tolerances on the whole assembly must be pretty good because I've lost the shim pack before and as a starting point just took the shims from another input set. They were perfect w/o adjustment. Just replace them. If your press doesn't have a gauge, 3T isn't much; it's a lot less than where the pinion bearing crush collar yields (around 8T if I recall). What you're looking for is zero axial play with free rotation under a nice compression. Most likely the shims you have will be perfect. One of my planned benchmarking activities is the thickness of the shims in the next series I dismantle. Be sure to oil the bearings during setup.
