Although being a bass player my self, I know that bass frequencies extend far beyond 200 Hz. So how you adjust mids and highs will also inform what the bass sounds like. latin music can use a shot of 250hz for example.
just to expand on berle's post, the wide narrow thing allows you to decide how specifcally your eq works. Its your choice. if you want boost or cut at exactly a certain frequency, then choose the narrow setting. If you want a more general cut or boost, choose the wider settings and so on...
Just so you know, the more eq you use - the more noise you will introduce to the system. Recording engineers start by 'cutting' the problem frequencies befor they boost 'weak' ones. this is because the 'weak' ones don't sound weak anymore - after you've cut the problems out. Gives you tons of head room too. Hope this helps.
