thans for the info guys. I am feeling a lot better alredy. Little on my background. I am new to Saab, but not new to mechanics. Born in the backyard, my experience is with jeeps and scouts. Moved into vw's for a while and now am on the saab bandwagon. Definately the nicest car I have ever owned and I love it, but the hardest to work on and the most expensive in parts. Hardest in terms of PITA repairs such as the alternator, bit doesn's seem like an engineering degree is necessary to fix most things. 95% of the time I can figure something out with the help of these great boards, but I am not too proud to amdmit when I am over my head...and being new to saabs, I'm never quite sure if I am or not before i start. The dealer loves to make it that way:) Now back to the current problem. Thanks for the responses. Let me ask this. What can I buy that replaces the whole thing you speak of instead of taking things apart? I am all for spending a little more on parts if it saves me labor. You mention a boneyard part. Whould that not include a lot of extra labor? Where can this tool you speak of? In what scenario is it necessary? Also, not sure if it helps in diagnosis of what part, but the ignition key will only allow the key to turn. The door lock key does not turn the ignition. Thanks again guys.
