Ball joints and alike don't have a certain life span, it all depends on where the car is driven.

Here in CA balljoints and tierod ends last more than 200K miles even though the boot breaks at 50-70K.

In your neck of the woods, I guess when the boot breaks it's only a matter of a couple of 1000th miles or years before the joint is worn out, because of the road salt and dirt. (at least that's the case in Sweden).

As for manual trans oil, pretty much any Dino motor oil is good, but the oil war can go on forever between people. Change on a regular basis is the key though, compared to the 9K where you couldn't easily change the oil until 94 and up model.

I use good used balljoints whenever we have a junk car to pick from, but otherwise TRW is what we have in stock. Don't know about Karlyn.
