Hi, Greg...thanks for asking.
It has been a LONG battle. We were lied to and cheated...or at least they made a bold attempt at cheating. We had a well-known, highly reputable Saab dealer in the area check the car out, and give us a written report. What they found were several INSPECTION-related issues along with the obvious bad head gasket and a few other things. The inspection issues provided significant leverage for us, because the dealer from whom we bought the car issues their own inspections, and they've been shut down for violations in the past.
At that point we got our attorney involved and now have a new head gasket, a new power steering hose, some new tie rod ends and a CV joint, I think it is, and a new brake hose because the original one had a ready-to-burst bubble in it and was deemed highly dangerous by the Saab dealer who evaluated the car for us post-purchase.
Still, it astounds me how much this guy tried to get away with. I still don't even trust that he has repaired what he said he repaired, and I'll give you an example of what that is so...
After the independent evaluation and the legal threats, they had the option to fix the car. They supposedly did so, and returned the car to us STILL leaking oil like crazy, STILL pouring smoke out of the tailpipe, etc. However, they provided us with an invoice which stated that they changed the head gasket and the power steering hose which had been leaking profusely. THey EVEN sent back to us what they deemed to be our OLD head gasket and our OLD, leaky power steering hose.
After having the car back for several days without improved performance and with continued significant oil leakage, we sent the car back. THis time they supposedly fixed it and this time they provided us with an invoice which said that they corrected the oil leak by putting on a new power steering hose. Huh? Again? So the first time they had not actually changed the power steering hose? Then what was that "OLD" power steering hose with which they had provided us?
Scary stuff...especially where the issues of inspection are concerned.
So...we are certainly tired of dealing with them.
We do continue to have a squeal which no one can seem to diagnose, and there's a hole in the muffler. We also continue to note the key entry problem which is likely to be the relay thing-a-ma-jig, but they refuse to change that so we'll probably have to do it ourselves.
Thanks again for asking, Greg. Happy New Year!
Julia
