900 Charging Problem

Month ago after stopped at Post Office my key to 87 900s did a 360 in the ignition. Needless to say the car would not start.

I kicked started it to get home and then hotwired it to get it started while i searched the classifieds for a new switch. I did a bad job with the electrical tape and managed to let a short keep the starter turning and burn up.

After putting on a salvage yard starter - I note the alternator light on dash does not come on and i only get 12 volts at battery - not 14.

Would a short burn out the diodes in the alternator? can i just replace the voltage regulator?

What are the chances its just the bulb?

Where can i get the dash bulbs and holders reasonaly?? Seem to recall dealer wanting like $10 each for the things -- Lost one inside dash trying to get it out to check

Oh - looks like i need a "special SAAB tool" to get the ignition switch out - Any ideas how to do that?
