Did it on a 90 900t at 90k and got small but annoying front and rear main seal leaks, replaced seals and still dry at 280k. Also did it on an 85 900t at 130k and had no leaks. Go figure? I like synthetics for easy startup in winter, but have probably spent too much on oil over the years.
Just received this month's Hemmings, and there was a section on oils for classic cars. The writer noted that synthetics several years ago had a tendency to affect seals. He said that now, this issue has been addressed. Interesting piece...i had always heard that the synthetic molecule string was shorter and synthetics would either find their way through smaller openings or could dissolve the sludge that had built up around the seals, thus causing the leak.
