I have an '86 900S with 103K miles on it. My steering rack was leaking a puddle the size of a football (american) on thegarage floor each night. I tried to locate the source of the leak but it appeared that every seal was wet.
Following the advice of members of the list, I flushed the system and poured in one container of Lucas PS additive. This stuff cost $8.00 US a pint. But the leaks have stopped completely. Furthermore, the slight morning sickness that I had been experiencing is gone.
My advice, spend $8 and try the Lucas product before comitting to replacing the rack.
