front of car = rear of engine Posted by JimBlake [Email] (#141) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimBlake) on Mon, 13 Jan 2003 11:13:07 In Reply to: Re:u dont need much.., trog100, Sun, 12 Jan 2003 20:51:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Since Jillian says he's a newbie for maintainence, let me clarify something...
The oil drain plug is towards the front of the car. That's the 'rear' of the engine since the flywheel is up there. It's on the LH side, & I didn't need to remove the guard plate on my '89. The 'oil pan' is really the transmission case; if there's another drain plug back there between the axles, it would be a transmission drain. The engine drain plug points straight down, unlike most other cars where it's angled downwards towards the rear of the car.
Don't overtighten it.
Oil filter...
I usually removed the battery cable, because the big fat (+) wire on the alternator is pretty close to the filter. When I R&R the filter its pretty easy to short that & make a big shower of sparks.
