Re: loose shifter; coolant does not warm up enough Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: loose shifter; coolant does not warm up enough, Paul ![]() |
As an initial check for the shifter, pull up the boot and check to see if the 3 screws that hold the shifter ball into the assembly. If those are tight, then the rubber isolator between the two halves of the shift rod (right behind the transmission) may be deteriorated.
There is also a pin on the very bottom of the shifter that is supposed to make it easy to find 5th. This may need adjustment.
Also, the centering may need to be centered. I'd post a link to Townsendimports.com, but their site is down right now. I'll post it later when the site is back up.
For the temperature problem, you need a new thermostat. They really should be changed every 2 years or so. Get one from one of the site sponsors. See the buttons down on the bottom of the page. Only get an OEM-type thermostat - it's a 3-position unit that operates as designed for the car instead of the normal 2-position thermostats that you find at chain auto stores.
