The temp sensor is just a variable resistor whose resistance drops when temp rises (hence its official name, Negative Temperature Coefficient sensor, or NTC sensor). It receives a voltage from the ECU, then the returned lower voltage is measured and a temp is calculated; the ECU adjusts injector pulsewidth accordingly, enriching when cold, no impact when @ operating temp.
A bad NTC sensor that no longer changes resistance with rising temp will have the ECU keep the car running rich, which may be freaking out your O2 sensor, hence the codes.
The NTC is bolted to the engine block beneath the intake runners.
As it's a Bosch part, you should be able to get it locally. Alternatively, purchase it from a Saabnet sponsor such as eEuroparts - who is selling them for under $20. Their site also notes that this part is used "for any 85-93 16v 900, and any 86-91 9000 turbo, 86-93 non/turbo, [Volvo]240 83-88 non/turbo, [Volvo] 740/760/780 84-89 4cyl all."
