one of the lifters is on the way out.. not always maintaining the correct clearance.. they can fail to the point that they just squish up and dont open the valve at all.. quite a wierd effect this has.. the car runs like it would with a burned out valve but cos of the near vacuum in the cylinder on the induction stroke it draws up oil past the rings.. this dont fire.. it get pumped out into the exhaust system and after a while the car blows loads of blue oil smoke out of its exhaust as the accumulated oil in the pipes gets hot and burns off... he he
this is what happens when its an inlet valve lifter that fails anyways.. (with a 16 four valve per cylinder car it would not be so dramatic) never had an exhaust one go on me.. same kinda thing but no blue smoke i imagine..
its one of those ignore it till it gets worse problems.. by the way.. the fix would be new lifters..
