Well for me it was 21 years ago when a friends Dad got a brand new 3dr black turbo. I remember being in the boot with my friend, blasting alopng the motorway, thinking 'This is cool'

Skip forward nearly 20 years and I finally get my own 8v Turbo, 5dr tho', 180,000 miles. So far it has never not started nor broken down. Now got 203,000 on original engine, 'box and turbo. Put leather in it and 3 spoke alloys, heated mirrors, 2nd fan for security, foglights and big stereo.

Last November I was in the breakers and an '85 silver 3dr 16v turbo had arrived. So I bought it, for £100. Today it nearly runs right, but it is not there yet. While I was towing this one back to my place I got pulled over by a guy who said 'I have inherited a SAAB 900 and it will cost me to scrap it. Do you want to come and have a look?' So we went to see it: '89 900I 16v, 2dr in red. Drove it away for £50 and all it needed to get back on the road were rear brake pads and one ball joint.

SAABs are so easy to work on, big, comfortable, quality build, loads of luggage space etc. And they are cheap to buy :-)

I know what you mean about the sedan rear end: not the prettiest sight...
