My brother-in-law owned a 1984 brown 8 valve turbo 5 speed. At first I thought it looked different bordering on strange, but I soon began to like the shape of the hatch. It was "slightly" worked by a Saab Mechanic named Garrick, a mechanic who is possibly the best Saab mechanic on the East coast. (The guy replaces 900c trannies WITHOUT removing the engine and in under 3 hours with power and 6 with handtools!) My Bro' was driving from dead stop and we were close to "excess of prudence" in no time. My neck got snapped, and I was hooked like a hungry wide mouth bass under 6 feet of ice in March. I remember the turbo "whistle" the most. Not the whirring of a blown turbo, but the whooshing of a bypass that was happy.

Within 2 months I bought from an original owner a 1986 900cT 5 speed and had Garrick work some of his magic. He has some unknown trick that he does in under 5 minutes that makes any turbo a rocket. I think he is either swapping that windshield washer vacuum hose restriction thingy or he is adjusting the F and B (?) rheostats in the APC control box. The car was a speeding bullet as well as being a roomy cargo van and comfortable camper. I am now on my third Saab, and have never looked back.
