Took a week because I was slow and lazy and also I like working with a friend who can help with heavy things. I crated up the parts and have them in reserve. They will replenish my communal supply (that I share with my brother-in-law) that I borrowed from when I needed an engine for a turbo convertible I just bought in November with a blown engine. He used the tranny from that engine for his 1989 SPG revival. If a car dies by us or is hit in an accident or is a cheap donor car, we snap it up and strip it down. In other words we do exactly what you want to do.
Just as an aside, I like friends around for pulling and installing engines and jacking up cars for safety reasons. If a car falls on you and no one is around you can die. If a friend is there and a jackstand shifts or an engine hoist chain goes, you have help. I keep a cordless phone on the scene at all times for emergencies, but thank God I have never needed it. A car did just fall of a jackstand while my other brother-in-law was working on it and pulling back and forth on a frozen bolt. He had just moved to attack the problem from the topside, thank heavens. The car was also properly secured, on jackstands, and rear wheels chocked. $hit happens boys and girls. Best be prepared.
Be prepared to wait a while for a good car. I waited over 9 months, and then needed to act fast to buy it. Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out.
