In NY, longer than the car, and I mean 250+. They're very good engines as long as you don't beat them (same as the Benz) and keep a good radiator cap on (like the Benz) and change the oil at the specified intervals (like the Benz) and change the coolant every other year (like the Benz.) The Scania division is responsible for engine manufacture, and they had incredibly few quality problems. Once the bore was enlarged in 1991 the head gasket became overstressed, but that's a once in the lifetime operation.
A pattern should emerge here. 250k engine. Personally we've only had one up to 190, but see http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/faq/miles/ if you want the real good stories. Now that I've gotten the transmission changed over (157k) I am back in the "hell-bent for 250" category. I'll see if I can outrun the rust.
