take a DVOM and on the low voltage scale put one lead at the battery on the cable to be tested and the other end on the other end of the cable...should read zero volts.

then crank the engine (ground out the secondary lead so car won't start) and read the voltage drop across the cable (any resistance in the cable multiplied by the current flowing through the cable will result in a voltage drop across the cable...theoretically you want zero cable resistance but you can't get there without superconducting cables which we generally can't get for cars)...the voltage drop should be less than one volt. If it is more, you probably have a corroded cable connection/connector or a defective cable. Fix accordingly.
