Now I shall reveal to you that I am an interloper from the 9000 board! Not to say that I haven't had my share of 99s and 900s (great cars all).
I am fortunate to be working on the 2.3 engine, which has a slightly simplified/more robust oil pump architecture which makes it easier to line up and properly seal the oil pump pickup tube.
I'll be installing new balance shaft chains and timing chain and all associated gears -- all of which went kablooie and brought about this rebuild in the first place -- so there's bound to be lots of engine turning by hand. Then, for this engine all I need to do is disconnect the fuel pump fuse, leave out the plugs and crank the starter until the oil light extinguishes. I think I'll take the idea of cranking with the timing cover off so as to visually confirm positive oil flow.
Thanks a zillion!
