David,
Your procedure sounds fine. A thorough scrubdown is important. Using very hot water for the final rinse will help the remaining water to evaporate faster. Blow dry with compressed air, spray and wipe machined surfaces with WD-40 and lint-free cloth. Use motor oil on everything. If it's a new cam, use cam lube on the lobes. Tho some moly lubes are said to clog oil filters, so oil must be changed after initial run-in.
I'm not familiar with the Hyperlube Chris recommends, but Chris knows his stuff....Don't use assembly lube on the cylinders...some ring manufactures even recommend dry assembly for faster break-in! (I use oil).
I pack oil pump gears with vaseline. It won't run out, and will insure oil pump begins to pump oil, not air, on initial start-up. It will dissolve in the oil afterwards.
With a new camshaft, initial run in should be done at 3000 rpm for 20 min. to insure full oil pressure... This is for a conventional V-8 pushrod engine, so I don't know if it applies to a SAAB engine also (chrisx?).
But at least use a fast idle, so there's plenty of oil pressure and splash for the cylinders.
