Had exactly the problems you describe- the car always started but then stumbled and stalled. Sometimes it would even run for quite a while before stalling.Turned out not to be any of those expensive/hard-to diagnose parts (ECU, AMM, O2 sensor etc).
First, check your grounds (on cylinder head, radiator support near battery etc.). By "check" i mean actually unscrew , clean and inspect for damage. The corrosion is often hidden. Next, deal with vacuum leaks. Trace every line carefully from source to terminal. Run the engine and twist and wiggle connections listening for change in idle. Either buy new lines or just slice off the ends of the existing ones and reconnect.
I know that everyone always gives this advice but the difference can be night and day in the performance of the car. It is also the kind of work that is NOT often done by the shop because it takes a fair amount of time. It worked for me and didn't cost me a cent. good luck.
