Well guys...I love my car an obnoxious amount, but I realize that I don't have the time or money to keep it going if another major problem has risen.

The Car: 1992 900S Sedan, 87k, 5 Speed, 2.1 N/A

The Problem: Over the past week, the transmission has been acting strangely. At first, I brushed it off, thinking to myself, "Well, it is a Saab." (No offense, but they can be a pain in the arse.) But on the way home today it became nearly unbearable. On the first day with a problem, last Tuesday, I was on my daily commute home. During the first 10 or 15 miles, the car was doing fine. As I took off from yet another stop light, I smoothly shifted through the first three gears, and when it came time for fourth, there was absolutely no way I could get it in. I wasn't going to try to force it, knowing that it may cause more problems. Later in the ride, as I was accelerating once more, I attempted to shift into fourth, and this time it went. The only problem was that any time that I let off the clutch or placed even the slightest amount of pressure on the throttle, it made a horrid clicking noise, which I thought may be the gear itself hitting something as it turned. I have endured it for almost a week now, by simply avoiding fourth gear. Today, as I started the car, there was an indescribable noise, that ended only when I pressed the clutch. It appeared to be present throughout all gears, though not too loud.

The Moment of Truth: I am no professional mechanic...Actually, I'm far from it. Other than a bit of experience working on American cars from the 40s and 50s, I have had no experience until now. Could my afore described problem be indicative of complete transmission failure soon to come? If this is the case, I will be forced to buy another car, and you guys will see '92 900S parts ads in the classified section. Could this problem be an easy, perhaps even cheap fix for a pro? I hope so, cause I sure would miss the Slaab.
