A number of things could be causing this: is probably a partial reason for the diffuse answers in the archives, and these problems can be difficult to pinpoint. A Bentley or Haynes service manual will help to sequentially/step-by-step troubleshoot.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe your 87/LH 2.2 offers on-board LH diagnostics via the CEL. If your CEL is on, ck your AMM

Does the stalling occur w/the engine both hot and cold or just hot (have you checked your NTC sensor)? Any correlation to rainy or humid days (moisture in distri cap and/or HT leads)?

The prob sounds electrical in nature, but don't rule out fuel delivery (as is partially electrically governed).

Start with checking the grnds, esp the main ones (specified in the service manuals), and electrical connections (dirty, loose or corroded). Careful voltage drop testing is said to be better than continuity testing.

Then progress to components

That it's been going on for 2 yrs, and all of your gauges totally die? seem to be good starting point tips
