Paul,
My duaghter had the same exact problem with her '94 NG900. The car would run fine and then just go dead. Sometimes, she would only have to turn the key "Off" and then back "on" and the car would restart and run for a day, a week, 10 minutes - there was no way of telling.
The local dealer gave her a story about the ignition system and perehaps there was a wiring problem, yatta, yatta.
I started snooping around and - thanks to this list - found the problem to be in the ingition switch. The symptoms included the loss of all dash lights and instruments in addition to the engine quitting. With the help of this listing, I found the problem to be located in the ingition switch.
There are two connections that have power when the car is running. I found that one of these was bad. I took the switch apart and cleaned-up the contacts and the problem was corrected for a little while. When it started happening again, I changed out the switch ( Given the amount of work to get at the switch I should have replaced the switch the first time) and the problem has not recurred in 2 years.
I hope that this helps you.
Paul R.
