i must admit to never having looked at a saab t-stat in a pan of boiling water.. in fact i have never looked at a saab one period.. what stat is in my saab i have no idea.. i have looked at normal ones close up thow.. they do not have any fixed positions at all.. they are infinitely variable between fully closed and fully open depending on exact temperature.. i know what a t-stat does and i know why cars have then fitted..
what i would like to know is how.. by it seems opening further.. a saab stat shuts off flow to the heater..
and what i would also like to know is why..
saab might well be weird but they usually have some reason for being weird.. arguements along the lines of "well thats how it is" dont really hold water with me.. sorry..
when fully closed coolent goes thru the heater core.. we know this for a fact.. its intended to.. how by opening further can a t-stat shut off this flow.. its a simply question.. do u know the answer..???
and the other question (if it does shut off the heater) is why.. do u know the answer to this.. or are u simply parroting what u read..
i have tried to get to the bottom of this one before... so far no one has come up with a valid answer.. all i ask is how and why.. and then i might "believe"..
one of the "whys" i have read is that saab think that shutting off flow to the heater puts more flow to the main radiator thus helping cooling.. this one dosnt hold water and its quite clearly someones guess at a why.. two radiators are gonna cool better than one.. shutting the small one off isnt gonna help cooling in the slightest.. thats apart from giving the driver cold feet..
anyway.. the why is probably unanswerable.. i will settle for a simple explanation of the "how".. how does a stat opening further shut of flow to the heater core.. ??????..
does anyone have a pic of a saab stat.. ????
