I needed somehting in the front end one day, so I just went ahead and put in new ball joints and tie rod ends while I was there (actually while the mechanic was there). The ball joints were scantech. The car was at 139k miles, so I fugured it would soon be time anyway for the joints. 2 years and 14000 miles later, I needed new ball joints. So this time I got the oem, for $50 a piece. Then, I couldn't get an alignment b/c the tie rods ends were frozen together. They were not scantech, they were something else, but not oem.
My advice for anyone who needs a complex part (perhaps unlike a control arm) is to not screw around with most aftermarket crap just b/c you will save $50. After 2 years, no winter driving, and 14000 mainly highway miles, i'm in the hole a couple hundred. Just thought I would share.
