there are folks who've discussed engine stands. search 'engine stand. also, 'chrisx' is someone who comes to mind that has exper. with this.
have you inspected the old motor? from what i've read (ha, my favorite disclaimer), you might simply need to replace the bearings, which can be accessed from below the motor without tearing it down. this is just some parroting here <parrot voice>, so you maybe ask someone who knows about these things.</parrot voice>
yes, your '88 has jetronic LH2.2 and the 93 has LH2.4; there are several incompatibilies as far as ancillary components such as AMM, AIC, distributor, etc. go. Unless you want to re-wire your car, keep the 2.2 stuff. one thing I would keep from the 93 is the distributor - if the p/n ends in 010, then it's got a better timing curve than your current car. to swap, you'll need to cut off existing connector & use a newer, square one.
yes, the fuel system is different, too; however, there is no need to swap out the old for the new.
