1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Hello there! First time poster/long time reader here. I recently did a complete clutch change in my '89 Turbo convt. I keep the car immaculate, as I've been in the autobody buisness for 25 years. Knowing the car industry first hand I know how it SHOULD work. This is an exaple of how it SHOULDN'T work! I read all the posts here, (never having done a 900 Saab clutch setup before) and set out to get the parts I needed first so I would be ready. I found a parts distributor right on this site called "Eeuroparts". I asked, (Todd, the owner) if this was a factory clutch setup I would be purchasing and I was assured it was. Upon receipt, I had already had my car apart and saw that the clutch disc Todd sent was NOT the clutch disc I had removed. I contacted Todd. I eplained that "his" clutch disc was smaller in surface area and the center hub looked cheaply made. I asked him directly, "If I were to go to the Saab dealership and get a clutch disc from them, would it look like the one I removed from my car or like yours"? He said, "No, it won't look like my original one, they don't make those anymore". I said OK, and we ended the conversation. My call seemed to irritate him somewhat, judging by the tone of his voice. I then went to the Saab dealer to see if Todd was being honest in his explanation. He wasn't. With my old disc in hand I stood at the parts counter and asked the parts guy to grab me a 900 clutch disc. What do you think he brought out? YUP!, the identical disc to the one I had removed! It was Saturday morning, and I needed to wrap this job up the right way. It's a dirty, irritating job to do a clutch and I was only going to do it once!
I bought the new "Saab" clutch disc and went home to finish the job. I did finish, the clutch works GREAT and I'm a HAPPY camper....ALMOST! I called Todd at Eeuroparts on Monday morning to tell him that his clutch was NOT the correct one, and that SAAB still DID sell the original. I asked If I could return the unused disc to him. He told me it wasn't possible, even though his receipt clearly says returns ARE possible. Todd seemed a bit Po'd that I caught him in a lie, and I got the feeling that he couldn't wait to get off the phone with me. I WAS polite with him, I paid him immediately, but when it came to remedying a problem, Todd basically told me to "Go pound sand". (I'm paraphrasing)
In closing, let me say just a bit more. I will NEVER buy from Todd or his company EEUROPARTS.COM again because they,(read: Todd) could care less about solving a problem that YOU have. ALWAYS check with the dealer for parts FIRST! And, This is by far the BEST site on the internet for SAAB help AND entertainment! Without this site, my clutch job would NOT have been possible. I read countless posts and felt like a pro when I did the job. Hats off to all of you good folks and keep up the good work! Until my next rant....Seeya Bob Itsaabouttime
