Same window woes

Taking a suggestion from here, I swapped the switches in my 90 900T and the switch worked in the passenger door. The window won't go down now, but I can hear the motor engage. I got a link to a post on taking out the motor but it said with the window down. If I take the motor and regulator out, will the window fall? Do I have to take the window out to fix it? Should I try to grease the regulator or just give in and buy the motor for $60.00?
Thanks for all your help folks.
