Ever have this happen? You're a dozen or so miles from home. You get out and lock the car, then notice that the key is cracked mid-length and twisted at a 90 degree angle and hanging on by a wisp of metal. That happened to me yesterday (sat). Since I had no spare, I had but two options: straighten it as best as possible then try and use it in the ignition. I reasoned that even with the cracked lower piece stuck in the ignition, I still had the remaining larger half to turn the ignition. But that meant I'd have to use that key like that until I could retrieve the lower half and find a way to duplicate it. Option two was to walk a bit until I found a key maker that could work with a cracked key. As luck would have it a Sears wasn't too far away and while the guy did have the SAAB key stock, he didn't have the machine that could work with a cracked key. But he did recommend a shoe repair shop a few doors down that might. Sure enough, that place did have a machine that could work with a cracked key. The guy did it for free, not sure if it would work. I told him if it did work I'll bring him some boots I need repaired. It did work.

Cylinder head update - The refurbishing of a good used 8V head continues. Today I successfully lapped four of the valves with their seats, plus cleaned the ceiling mating surface, and did some more gouging of metal inside the valve bowls. I should be finished with the porting and polishing by next weekend. I may also have it sent to a machine shop for a flattening, if I determine there's some warpage. I suspect there is based on a SAAB mechanic informing me how the heads often warp - it bows up in the center. One sure sign is the inside coolant channels displaying evident seepage on the metal surface, which this head does have. A long flat rule laid across the top from end to end will reveal a gap in the middle if it is warped.
