8 valve idle adjustments

Once again, I fail to practice what I preach by posting a question before reading the manual. Sorry.

The car: 1988 900, 8 valve (yep, K-Jet, yuck.) Any response talking about AIC valves or air mass meters will be instantly discounted.

The problem: semi-cold idle speed too low. Cranks fine, starts fine, then after a minute or two the idle speed drops low enough to stall the motor. After the engine is warm (temp. gauge in green zone) the idle is fine.

What I have done so far: I have sprayed penetrating oil into the idle bypass valve (bi-metallic spring thingamajig with two air hoses and an electrical connector on top of flywheel housing) and checked the valve with a flashlight and mirror. The valve is fully open when the motor is very cold. I have also adjusted the warm engine idle using the adjustment screw on the throttle body.

My guess at what is wrong: Is the throttle valve itself out of adjustment? If I drive the car with my foot on the gas a little bit it will not stall, though I'm no good at left-foot braking, especially if I need to change gears. Also, the throttle cable is adjusted all the way out.
What is not broken: vacuum lines are all fine and not leaking. The gas cap is good. The oil dipstick is seated. The oxygen sensor was replaced not too long ago. The air filter and exhaust are clear. I just changed the fuel filter, caprotorplugsandwires. The timing is correct. What's going on?
If the throttle bypass valve thingamajig is failing, where do I get one? I checked eeuroparts and could not find one. I'd hate to guess how much Saab would charge for this...

Anyway, I may answer my own question or I may still need some help later on. I would appreciate any bits of wisdom the Saabnetters could lend on this.
