depends on how the head unit uses the control signal--- I installed a Kenwood w/ LCD display, and the dimmer function would not trigger off of the brown/white--- instead, I had to tap a line over to the headlight switch so it would either see +12V or 0V, then it worked fine. I think the brown/white is part of the dash lighting, so it's coming off of the dash rheostat and giving something like 7 or 8V (depending on what you have the rheostat set to)?
