The gunky brake fluid that contributed to the master cylinder failure will also contribute to a slave failure. Also, as SWEDECAR points out, flushing the old fluid out of the system may get some crud into the slave and precipitate failure.
Was the failure abrupt(all at once) or did it develop over a period of time? An abrupt failure may indicate that the hose has failed; no amount of clutch pumping will get any action out of the clutch. If the failure developed over some time and pumping will get a little action out of the clutch, then either the master or slave is bad. It could be that the new master has failed, but the slave is more likely.
A bad slave cylinder will often leak hydraulic fluid out the hole in the bottom of the clutch housing and onto the ground.
