buy a R134A charging kit and read the instructions.
Basically, you hook the tube/puncturer up to the can of R134A and tighten the handle to punch the can...loosen the handle to bleed gas into the hose, displacing any air in the hose (you may have to use a screwdriver to trigger the one-way valve in the end). Screw the hose onto the LOW PRESSURE or suction side of the AC system and discharge the can into the system.
The real issue is how much R134A you're putting into your system...if you have to fully recharge the system, there's a leak that should be repaired or else your R134A will just leak out again. And the quantity of R134A is more critical than R12 systems for effective operation. Overfill it and you'll have excessive pressures on the high side that could rupture a tube or damage the compressor. Don't forget that the proper lubricant might have to be instilled as well...when the old R134A leaked out it took some lubricant with it....repeated installation of refrigerant means the compressor is operating with less and less lubricant.
You'll need to buy a set of gauges to measure high and low side pressure.
