16V right? Check the intake plumbing carefully for leaks, that could produce these symptoms. Throttle body, rubber bellows etc.
Check that the vacuum advance is working properly - suck on the hose leading to it - it should hold vacuum. If you have a timing light, check the timing while doing this, you should see it advance. If not, its diaphrapm is ruptured and the engine cannot advance timing, so it will run but not accelerate.
Another thing to try would be to disconnect the AMM - just pull the plug. This will put the car in "limp home" mode. If the car runs better like this, possible you have a bad AMM.
FPR - pull the hose leading to it and check for signs of gas leakage in the vacuum line, if the FPR is bad, gas is sucked into the intake resulting in hyper-rich air-fuel and drivability problems.
What shape is the exhaust in? Clogged exhaust/cat could cause these symptoms.
Another possibility is a clogged fuel filter - this will allow some fuel through - enough to start and idle, but not enough to accelerate.
Good luck.
