You will need a tub large enough to hold the grille. Pour "Castrol Super Clean" (purple gallon container available at auto parts stores, etc.) into the tub so that its completely submerged. It will have to soak, I would think, for days. The CSC will burn your skin, so, use rubber gloves although oddly enough it is "environmently friendly". You can use a stiff-bristle brush to assist the CSC and then resoak. The CSC will not harm the plastic and can be reused. Make sure the tub is thick plastic like a Rubbermaid product or equivilent.
I have never stripped a grille, but, I've used this product to remove "brightwork" from plastic with good results. When completely stripped wash the grille with dishwashing soap to remove any residue prior to paint.
