That sounds normal. The fans come on after turning the car off due to "heat soak", that is, you don't have air passing through the radiator from movement anymore so all the heat stays trapped under the hood. The temp switch senses the sudden increase in temperature and runs the fan(s) to pull air through the radiator and blow it out under the car until the temp drops. When you don't hear the fan cycling on and off is when you have a problem, that means your temp sending unit has failed or the fan relays have failed (and they can fail in the on position also and drain your battery). Thermostats can fail and cause a boil over, so I replace mine every year just for the cheap insurance. If you ever sense that your are about to overheat, turn on your a/c as the second fan only runs with the a/c on (at least on non turbos, others may jump in here if I'm wrong) Enjoy your new car.
