Rear springs/shocks

The rear springs in my '83 900 non-turbo are shot, and the shop says that they need replacement.
The car tends to "squat" in the rear, and it is noticable even unloaded. I often carry a few hundred
pounds in the hatch, and it must have worn the rear springs. In my old "Saab Accessories" catalog
are pictured two interesting additonal items:
Saab P/N 02-02-465 Spring Assisted Shock Absorbers -- "valuable added comfort and safety
when carrying heavy loads over potentially rough terrain"
Saab P/N 02-30-268 Air-spring kit -- "Mounts inside rear spring coils and compensates for
cargo weight. Adds driving stability when carrying or towing heavy loads"
My shop guy reommends against the air spring kit. He says that the hoses and fittings often
develop leaks and that the whole thing is a big nuisance. However, the spring assisted shocks
might be useful, he says. The problem is that Saab has discontinued both of these items.
The spring assisted shocks looks like regular shocks with a spring wrapped arond them -- interesting
idea. Does anyone know where a pair could be found? Is there an aftermarket replacement for these?
Thanks!
John
