What would a real mechanic do if someone brought there car in like this. How would they repair the problem from some unqualifed to do the job in the first place??

Heres the Entire Story:

I was messing under the hood, changed Distributor Cap and rubbed off the marks I made. I reinstall the wires as Bentley said and the car pop'd instead of firing up. I then wrote a post and someone told me to put car at TDC, pull plug #1, and look at position of D. Rotor. That in turn will be location for wire # 1. Going Clockwise put #3,#4, then #2. I did this and the car started up and ran off key. It ran as it would if you pulled the plug on the TPS and tried to accellerate, it doesnt go so well. Then I thought maybe I went the wrong direction and switched wires #4 and #2. Then the car just pop'd. This is the way the Bentley book illistrates it. But the way the post from this board allowed me to get the car running atleast. I then remembered when I was a tooth off on the timing chain back in January that the car ran the same way. So I put car in TDC, Took of v. cover and noticed the cams were 180 off. Then I took off the Chain and tried to manually rotate the cams to the line they were to be at. I could turn them a little and then it would stop. I rotated the intake cam back to were it was and put chain back on. Then I rotated the flywheel one revolution and tried it again. They still didnt line up! Now here I am , I put the v. cover back on, and have a car that doesnt run.

What would a Mechanic do with the info I just stated??
