No timing marks on flywheel

I've got a 1988 900S 5-Speed. I was attempting to time the engine the other day and all I can find for the timing mark is a raised rivet, no lines no numbers? However, this rivet does line up (more or less) with the #1 spot on the distributor. I assume this is the mark for 14 degrees btc. The reason I ask this is I cannot locate this rivet with my timing light. I have painted the rivet white and still cannot find it with my light. The reason I am timing the engine is I could not get the idle down below 1100-1200 rpm. I have tested all the usual suspects and the intake and AIC valve are clean also. The Saab dealer timed the engine 10,000 milles ago for the same high idle problem and over the course of the last 6 months the idle has slowly crept up. My question is since I cannot locate the timing mark, what speed will the engine idle at assuming the timing is set correctly? If the engine is set to 14 degrees btc will the idle be below 850 rpm? The throttle adjustment screw is all the way out on this engine. I retarted the timing just a hair and the engine settled in at 850, but since I cannot find the timning mark with my light I'm not sure how close I am. Any suggestions are apprecitated-Dave F.
